About Me
About Me
Growing up in a musical family, I started learning to play the violin when I was just 3 years old. I was my mother's first Suzuki student, but I have also studied with a number of other teachers including Alice Kanack, Nadine Moehlenkamp, Jason Day, Laura Bossert, and Wanchi Huang. Most recently, I took Suzuki Violin Unit 1 course with Ronda Cole. I have also taken the Every Child Can! and Violin Unit 2 courses with David Strom.
I have attended numerous music camps as a child on both violin and viola including the Greater Washington Suzuki Institute, Phoenix Phest, Pennsylvania Suzuki Institute, and Point CounterPoint. I was also a member of various orchestras within the American Youth Philharmonic Orchestras during my childhood for eight years, including AYP for three of those on both instruments. While I was in high school, I earned a position in the Senior Regional Orchestra four years in a row and additionally attained placement in the Virginia All-State Orchestra during my senior year.
Outside of my private studio, I have teaching experience in many other settings such as Suzuki group classes, public middle and high schools, and college environments. I have coached and judged students for orchestral auditions, as well as coaching chamber groups and orchestra ensembles. Last year, I had the fantastic opportunity of teaching a masterclass at GWSI. Administratively, I have been an Assistant Dean at the Castleman Quartet Program and an administrative assistant at GWSI. I was employed for four years with the Forbes Center for the Performing Arts as a Live Stream Operator for music performances at James Madison University during my schooling there. In the spring of 2025, I graduated with a Bachelor in Music with a concentration in Violin Performance.
While at JMU, I held positions as the principal violist and concertmaster of the Symphony Orchestra. I was a first violinist in string quartets, quintets, and trios and have auditioned for the Concerto and Aria Competition on violin where I succeeded to the final round two years in a row. I have performed in many ensemble concerts at the Forbes Center and completed my Junior Half Recital in the fall of 2023, along with my Senior Full Recital in the fall of 2024. Although I am heavily involved in music to this day, I eventually hope to enroll in medical school and become a physician.
Lessons
Currently, I'm offering private lessons on violin and viola for any age and level, in-person and online in the Manassas area. I use the Suzuki Method to teach basic techniques at the beginner and intermediate levels. Lessons start at 30 minutes, typically for young students, then increase to 45 minutes as age and/or skill increases, and can culminate at 60 minutes for advanced or adult students. Typically, I hold lessons in Manassas at my home, however lessons can be arranged at the student's home or an alternative location.
Audition Prep
If you or your child are preparing for an upcoming audition, such as Senior Regional Orchestra, All-State Orchestra, any youth orchestra, and/or an audition for a music camp/festival, you can schedule either a 45 minute or 60 minute coaching with me without committing to the studio. You can find the rates for these in Rates & Policies.
